Evaluation

The film centres around a merciless professional hitman. He has the innocent look of an ordinary and caring civilian. This appearance can be used to mask his true nature - the old idiom of looks can be deceiving. The film is a representation of the Hollywood trope of ‘Lone Hitman’, similar to ‘John Wick’ as they are both assassins and also enjoy similar rich lifestyles. They are both professional and successful. I presented my main character as a man with good looks, and seemingly harmless, but he is, in reality, a cold, calculating and ruthless mercenary killer. This is seen by the close-up of the smile he had on his face to show his delight when he thought back to both his past deeds and possible future. His greed for money is shown by a phone call where he coldly demands a price for an assassination contract. He sees life as transactional, always in demand as a killer for hire. The victim is the opposite, his desire to kill is driven by revenge, an emotional motivator. This is repre...

Creating the social media page

Image
The most obvious image to use was the image from the postcard. Then I used the format of the website, Indie Wrap, which features many short films and interviews with their directors. I took a photo of myself... Then altered the image and text. And created some quotes to be posted in a thread. I led used the photography from the postcard shoot to create the actor/character bios. which extended the branding of the postcard. I used a dynamic still from the film for the banner image, which reflects the thriller genre I was working in. Using the template from Indie Wire was easy and could easily be change in google slides rather than Photoshop Finally I took key moments from the film and edited them to create a short trailer which you can see below.

Film poster

Image
A movie poster that I was inspired by for my movie poster was Us. This is seen by its strong use of Low key lighting. In my poster, I used Low key lighting on the two main characters, letting some light shine on them, showing their light and dark side.

Q&A with Charlie Budden

Final year film production student, Charlie Budden came to my school, Tanglin Trust School, to give a presentation of his movie, Oh Little Spark,  which he directed.  The film centers around a boy named Gabriel and his Grandma, showing the bond and relationship those two have. The film is also largely inspired by the relationship Charlie and his Grandma share, who too played in the movie. Gabriel's Grandma explains her wartime memories to Gabriel, creating a rift in their relationship as tragic secrets are revealed.  Charlie chose to create this movie as it shows the increasing disconnect between generations in modern society and the enduring familial relationship between a grandma and her grandson. Charlie wanted to establish an authentic and emotional resonance with the audience through its personal story. This is due to the fact that Charlie has an elderly Grandma, and the relationship they share is similar to the one that is presented in the film. Charlie's aim was to...

Skyfall analysis

Image
In Skyfall, the house, Skyfall, is under assault by armed gunmen and the defenders are fighting back with all they've got. In my movie, there will be only one man invading the house of the protagonist. The use of guns will represent the action as guns are very commonly used in shootout scenes, which is something I am trying to recreate. The low-key lighting represent the horror and suspense, which is also something I intend to use in the making of my film, as the characters tend to blend in with the darkness more at night. The middle of the film will be set at night as it is the time of day when bad events tend to occur. The only difference is that Skyfall contained very dramatic non-diegetic action music, whilst my movie won’t be containing any. This is to build the suspense and fear. The house is also set on fire by the intruders, making escape impossible. This would’ve been a good feature to add to my film, but it would’ve require too much work with editing or even using real fi...

Updated schedule

Weather problems

Image
My shooting schedule has been hit recently due to Singapore's rainy season lasting longer than expected. The plan to shoot the exterior Scene 3 has been hit due to the thundery conditions. This is problematic as I need my cast member to be in attendance as well. The original plan of 19 of January has had to be changed. The plan has shifted to the 22 January due to his availability and the camera has been booked.

Schedule

The plan is to get the filming done in 3 evenings during the week and aim to do most of the post-production before the end of January. The time schedule is optimistic but possible as I'm working mostly alone and only need cast members for about 30% of the shooting.

Location Scouting

Image
See above to location scouting reports for all 3 locations. SCENE 1 Location - Flashback The photos above are from FS2. While the location has its advantages as it has empty dark space, the cyclorama and the light panels, it's clearly a classroom. While the desk can be moved the presence of the whiteboard is problematic and can only be disguised with careful blocking. FS2 has been booked for the shooting session and the actors have been informed. SCENE 3 location Exterior This is the location for the denouement of my film. The road is accessible and relatively quiet however, there is currently construction taking place and there can be a steady flow of traffic. The main issue is the heat, but there is a domestic residence nearby for refreshment and shelter.

Plot Summary

An unidentified boy witnesses a man, who he doesn’t recognise, but only see his gun, gun his friend down.  The film cuts three years later where an isolated young man, Eric, spots another man, Kyle, spying on him. Fearing for his safety, Eric arms himself with a gun he had hidden. Later that night, Kyle breaks into Eric’s house to kill him. After a shootout, Eric is held at gunpoint by Kyle, whilst critically wounded. Eric recognises the gun in Kyle’s hand from three years ago. At the last second, Eric shoots Kyle moments before he could pull the trigger before blacking out.  Eric wakes up the next day. Eric patches himself up, hides Kyle’s corpse in his store room, and cleans up all the evidence of a fight occurring. As he walks out of his house, he recalls the events of three years ago. It is revealed that Kyle was the boy who witnessed the assassination of his best friend, and it was Eric who was the assassin, three years ago.  Eric stops by a tree, receiving a call fr...

Plan for Short Film

Image
8/9/22  Idea: - One man defending his home from intruders. - Protagonist and antagonists have guns and lethal items - Villainous Protagonist 11/9/22 Inspiration: - Home Alone - Us Both, Home Alone and my movie both revolve around a house invasion where someone on the inside has traps laid out for them. Both, Us and my movie trick the audience into routing for the villain. This is done by flashbacks shown throughout the film, leaving key moments out until the end.   14/9/22 Plot: 15/9/2022 Us - intruder scene Both films feature low-key lighting to create suspense for the audience. I intend to also use low-key lighting throughout my film, featuring dark areas, making characters blend into the darkness like in the other two films. The films are all set in houses that are being raided. In Us, the house is being attacked by clones of the family that lives in the house, terrorizing the family                      ...
